MERRY XMAS PILOT VALLEY RESIDENTS

MERRY XMAS PILOT VALLEY RESIDENTS, WE WILL BE THERE NEXT YEAR TO CELEBRATE AT THE MONKEY BONE RANCH!!!

Toilet Flushing

Saw a great way to have indoor plumbing. Inspired by the christmas story they show for 24 hours on xmas eve and xmas day.
Use the old school water closets. Toilet bowl, pull cord and water rushes from above the toilet and flushes the toilet. Just need to hook a pipe up under the building structure and have it run downwards since it will be gravity fed...

WOW I am amazed at this

A shipping container home was an idea floating through my head for years.

http://montellooffgrid.blogspot.com/2009/12/shipping-container-landing-in-montello.html

glad to see it worked out for someone.

Carbon Foot print 13.1

I was quite shocked to find out when my gas sipping honda civic was missing that a hummers carbon foot print is 13.1 Do you wanna know what other truck has a 13.1 carbon footprint? unfortunately its my 95 f150 truck. I wish that it was better carbon foot print but maybe offsetting it will be my little monkey bone ranch. solar powered, wind powered. if anyone knows of a reliable electric truck, please let me know.

Should I go for it?

should i just pack up and move to montello jan 1st, 2010, or should i wait till october? kinda think jan 1st might be a bad idea, but i know waiting till october really shouldnt be a plan either. just really sick of life when it takes over 40 minutes to drive 20 miles in the city
They found my car friday it was missing rear axle parts. Parts from engine. Why would people steal factory stock parts

Business booming

Well opening my own video game computer repair shop was a great idea.
Made a crap load of money and I have only been open a whole week. At
this rate I will be quite set by oct 2010 when I move to montello. If
this rate of income continues I might have a real house built before
october.

Blog visitors

If 43866 people have visited my blog, why do I not have more followers?
$1 from each person could buy my electricity poles from pilot valley
electric company, could also dig me a water well, and almost pay my land
off.. Chip in yall...

This time next year

Will be building my home for the next 26 years in the pilot valley of
the montello region of nevada. Video game business is going ok, but I
have an interview tomorrow to become the assistant captain of long john
silvers fast food seafood chain. Arrrh mateys would you like to add a

Snow snow snow

According to rev mike, it has snowed twice in the past week. Couple of
inches are on ground, its been real cold. Tampa weather folks say there
is more snow heading to montello area, they didn't mention montello,
just the general area... What does this mean to my moving and building
plans for next october? Will I be screwed and have to stay in tampa even
longer now.... I really hope not.... its october 4th and its 91 degrees
rather be freezing in montello... rev mike says his solar heater is
keeping his camper a toasty 70 degrees throughout day and night.... 1
month down, 12 more to go, hopefully be in montello next october,, good
luck rev mike

At the flea market

Its colder weather, wait, I live in florida, its cooler lol by 5 degrees
so I should be able to walk around. Looking for more supplies I can put
into storage until next october. Hurt my back this week, so hopefully
walking around will help it heal, I somehow doubt that though. Gonna
search for another generator, maybe a wind turbine, doubt will find a
wind turbine tho. Has anyone done any gas generator fuel ration test
yet? Is thinking running it for 7 hours on a gallon of gas reasonable? I
was planning to run it for 7 hours to charge batteries or just to run
lights at night until bed time, maybe to watch a tv and dvd player at
night. If its only a gallon of gas per 7 hours, that's about 30 gallons
a month, not too bad for an electric bill. I do think wind power or
solar power is a better cheaper option, but seeing as I bought this
generator already...

Update update

October 1st 2010, I finally get to my dream place. Monkey Bone Ranch
finally launches. Just need to make it till december 2009 and my car is
paid off. That will free up about $230 a month to save for the move. All
supplies are already bought, so hopefully sitting in storage for another
year doesn't make them useless.

Pallet house

Really debating making a house from pallets, just screwing them together
like prebuilt sections. Cover the inside with osb make it air tight.
Cover the outside with vinyl siding. Cover roof with metal flashing,
maybe even make a gutter to collect rain water. Really enjoy the 9
square feet pallet ideas and the tiny house ideas.

UPDATE ON TREVOR COHEN

Turns out he was a scammer, never sent the well funds or the water tank holding funds. No memorial will be built for him on my goat farm.
Whenever people contact you on the internet and offer you free money to help your project, do not get your hopes up until you have money in your hand. I have been waiting months for this donation!!!

New friends

Just met a nice fellow from california, he has bought 10 acres north of
montello. Apparently the north of montello land sales are booming. He
plans to move in about 3 years. The population of montello is going to
be increasing shortly. Hopefully the new resident, is able to bring in
wireless internet to the valley as he hopes too. Wind power seems to be
the option everyone says is the way to go, due to the wind power and
speed.

Supplies

Didn't find any new supplies at yard sales this month. Then again didn't
go to many or the flea market much. Hopefully it will be cooler at the
flea market in sept and october and make more money.

The colony

Been watching a show on discovery channel called the colony. Its a group
of people who are stranded in a warehouse area and they think the world
was wiped out by a virus and they are few survivors. Any how, they have
showed you can use a battery bank for power and recharge it with a
pressure washer and a car alternator. The cool part is, that they don't
has gas, so they created a system that burns wood, and then that wood
heats up wood in a smaller container and makes gasification. So no gas,
and burn wood, makes burnable gas fumes off the wood. They used this
back in europe in the world wars when gas was scarce. This show is gonna
be very useful.

Elko county

Apparently elko county does not care what is built in the montello area.
So it looks like I could in theory build my area up with sheds and other
creative ways to make structures. Maybe I can still use my ez up tents
as structure frames, and line the walls with plywood as I originally was
going to do.

They made it

Michael and michael made it to montello on august 1st. They are having a
truck issue, but seem to be going well. The feed store in wendover is
closed, but there is one in wells perhaps. We will hollaback farm all
the luck in the world. Wish we had our adventures beginning at the same
time.

Sunday, July 19, 2009

Well the move is def delayed now

No chance of moving in august unless something drastic happens within 11
days. I wish michael and michael good luck in their move. Wish I would
be there with them...

Pallet Sheds for FREE

I posted an ad on craigslist for FREE Pallet Shed, just so I could use someone elses land to do my experiment.

New Pallet buyer

Went today, had to wait 3 hours to sell pallets.
A new guy who spoke even less english bought 5 good pallets for $2.75 and 6 pallets that werent good enough for $1.25 each.
$21.75 and had 9 pallets left over.

Truck update

Apparently its great I got the truck, if not due to all the road
construction that has flooded every road on my side of town, I would not
had made it to work or home from work. I think in the desert the truck
will be perfect. Even when it snows if it ever does that..

Oil change and camper

Went for my free oil change at a different place then I went for the
alignment. The new place said I needed tires, failed to mention gear box
was leaking everywhere, didn't mention brake problem or engine shutting
off problem. So do I take their word or do I go with original places
assestment of my truck lol.
Camper was pure junk, lifted roof and it started falling apart put lid
down, fell apart even more

Trailer fund

Just started my trailer fund. Going to look at 2 pop up campers
tomorrow with a price range of $100 to $150. Will get the best looking
one. Will have to find some place to store it until I move to montello.
Both will need new canvas but I plan to build solid walls once in
montello so canvas will be useless to replace.

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Stupid monkey

I bought rainx windshield washing fluid for my truck today. Got home,
windshield washing lever didn't work. I just took apart windshield
washing unit in truck for no reason. Couldn't figure why it wasn't
working, checked fuse, hooked up 6v battery to pump and it worked. Then
I just pushed in on button on end of lever it magically works. 4 minute
project just became over and hour...

Harbor freight tools

Really cool and nice of them. Store prices were higher then web but they
matched their web prices for me, because I could pull up prices from my
cell phone..

harbor freight tools

Been here since 650am waiting for them to open. Another 5 minutes and I
should be in the door. Getting a hitch for my truck. Will need them if I get a pop up camper this weekend.
Found 2 that are $150 and $100 but both need work done to them to get
them livable. Found a place near here that says its $300 a month
including water and electric for RVs so I asked if a pop up would be
good enough. If it is, then I will setup camp there and see what works
and doesn't work until august.

Monday, June 22, 2009

Pallet sales sucked

Apparently its not $5 a pallet. Its $3 a pallet in mint condition or
$1.25 a pallet not mint. Apparently blue pallets can't be resold, so
those will be used to build houses and cabins..

Sunday, June 21, 2009

Pallets and pallets

Well I found many sources for pallets. I have 10 in the truck, think I
can fit 20 in at a time. That's $100 a load to the pallet store. takes
about 10 minutes to load 20 pallets on truck, once they are found. Maybe
even less time. Thinking of picking a homeless guy up and paying him 50
cents to a dollar per pallet he loads. Wish there was a way to load more
then 20 pallets at a time. My main goal is to find 70 pallets a week.
Then I can retire from my job. Take less then an hour to make my
paycheck. That's really really sad...

Friday, June 19, 2009

Awesome building materials

UPS guy who brings the pallets of stuff to work notified me the jc penny
store has a huge dumpster full of either oak or pine shelves. Must get
to this dumpster and see what I can use. Only problem is, its 2500 miles
from montello and getting it there will be a problem..

Pallets pallets

I have collected 10 of them this week. Would have been 12 but someone
stole 2 before I bought a chain and lock. But I found 2 in the neighbors
back yard who stole my yard trailer, so I might go reclaim my trailer
and take the pallets while I am at it.

Flea Market finds

Going to flea market tomorrow to find more supplies!!! Might pick up another drill or another larger bike wheel. Saw a bunch of stuff at yard sales last week, but i am still recovering from truck purchase :)

Donation from Trevor Cohen

UPDATE ON THIS SCAMMER!!!!

Our friend that is passing away has informed us that his donation for
the water tank is on its way. As soon as it arrives, we will be
purchasing the tank and having it delivered to Monkey Bone Ranch. Thank
you very much Mr Cohen of England. Hopefully he lives long enough to
come visit us and see our little community.

Another wind turbine idea

Going to find a junk bike and a belt or rope and attach a motor to it
and as I exercise I will see if it does the same as my bike wheel and
drill does. If it does, I will use it in nevada as part of my exercise
program.

Another unique house

Going to collect some shipping pallets and do another experiment. Will
take about 51 pallets to build a cabin my future wife wants. I get about
2 pallets a day from work. Will try to build a simple small structure in
back yard and see how it goes.

Saturday, June 13, 2009

Wind turbine test again

Bent a nut to stop wheel from free spinning. Now bike axle spins the
whole drill head. I had a friend hold and watch the multimeter. On
setting #10 had constant 3.0 and highest of 3.22v from hand spinning. On
setting 24 I got as high as 2.90v and on setting 1 got 0.32v Im thinking
I may get 12v if I attach the drill to a stationary bike. Would be a
great exercise activity. But maybe 7mph winds would spin it. All depends
on constant wind speeds in the valley. Will get a blocking diode this
week. Have to find a way to stop it from spinning opposite way which
makes the volts negative. I really can't believe this simple tech works
for charging batteries..

All beware TIRES PLUS AUTO CARE

Went 4 alignment, 2 HOURS later, they claimed my gear box was leaking
all over the place, truck wouldn't stay running, brake petal went all
the way to the floor. I drove truck over 100 miles yesterday, stayed
running whole time, gear box leaking everywhere would leave puddles when
I park, I was at flea market, no puddle, at work, no puddle, at
concession stand, no puddle, driveway at house, no puddle. My brake
petal never reached the floor ever.. Well I saved $99 alignment money
and caught a scam company in the process... will take elsewhere next
week.

Friday, June 12, 2009

Wind turbine project construction

Ok couple of problems. Yes youtube video told the truth. During test,
bike wheel does blow with no fins. But to generate the volts, trigger
needs to be engaged, and the head needs to spin, not just the wheel.
Have to lock the axle of bike wheel somehow so it spins the whole drill
head. My test results were 1.5v to 2.5v just hand spinning. But if I can
lock the axle and have wind we can make enough volts to charge batteries
for montello.

Wind turbine constructed

Got the parts did a trial, it worked see the picture below

Wind turbine project shopping

As soon as its 930am eastern I am packing up my stuff at flea market
then I can shop for wind turbine materials, a cordless 12v or 14.sv
drill and a bike wheel.. Will build it saturday along with solar
heater.

Monday, June 8, 2009

Thermometer test

110 degrees inside my car at 730pm in florida during sunset time. Did
not make the solar heater that's just the temp inside a florida car.

Solar heater project

Got a thermometer today. Didn't have time to get to flea market to get a
12v drill to take apart and make the wind turbine with it along with a
bicycle wheel.

New Adopt a Goat Program

Support our Goat Program:
Adopt a Goat

Monkey Bone Ranch's goats are of the alpine breed, capable of producing almost a gallon of milk each day for Montello area poor children & their families. When you "adopt" a milk goat, you are taking a concrete, solid step to turn the tide away from human suffering from malnutrition and illnesses stemming from a lack of nutrition and instead provide the conditions for healthy, productive, fulfilling lives for those in need.

What does adopting a goat entail? By adopting a goat, you help provide for its food, its annual shots, wormings, hoof trimmings, vitamin supplements, and any additional health care necessary for its optimum health, well-being, and productivity. You do not actually own the goat; ownership stays with Monkey Bone Ranch; rather your adoption helps cover the cost of caring for the goat so that it can do its best to feed hungry people: Besides the milk the females produce, all the goats -males & females- boost vegetable & fruit production by adding fertility to the soil and by eradicating noxious weeds.

You have no work responsibilities for the goat, but you are welcome to come visit your goat whenever the farm is open. Goats are extremely affectionate and love receiving handfuls of grain from their adopting human parents! You just need to schedule a time with our herdsman by emailing.

By the way, Goat Adoptions make terrific gifts!!:
If you adopt a goat in honor of another person, we will send via Email a gift card in your name to the person you specify with your personalized message (if you designate one), and attach to that email the goat adoption certificate, the biographical data on the specific goat adopted, and a color photograph of the adopted goat.

General Information about goats: Goats have very distinctive personalities; they all have a great sense of humor, and are extremely smart. They are Houdini-like escape artists that learn how to untie knots & unlock locks to get out of wherever they are, just for the heck of it! Goats can live twice as long as dogs, and make just as loyal a companion.

Truck update

May have got too big a truck, takes up my whole driveway....might not be
that big of truck when you compare I have been driving a small japanese
car for the last 3 years.. but the bigger the truck, the better for the
high desert roads. More goats and other supplies I can haul at one time.
My gas budget to get to montello however has gone up to $405 on todays
gas prices.. My driveway in montello will be huge so this truck won't
take up the whole drive way..

Yes yes finally a truck

Got a 1995 FORD F150. Its white, dual fuel tanks, 128000 miles. Has a
bed liner, tinted windows, cold AC. Pictures to come when I get home.

Tubes for project heater

Well I had a picture of the tubes and just deleted it instead of
attaching it to the post... they looked like blueprint tubes but were
clear with black end caps. They were $1 a piece at the yard sale. Bought
2 since that's all they had. Figure they should do the same job as a
stack of empty cans, but it will be easy since they are in one piece.
Just need to paint them black. I may try to see if I can bleach water
with them first to purify the water. If so may not use them for the
heater project.

Portable AC plans

Found Portable AC plans I bought many years ago for my small 1988 chevy sprint. Worked great in hot hot florida sun. I am trying to upload them so everyone can download them for free.

Rev Mike Solar Heater

His heater is very promising. I plan to make one myself, but with out cans. Just make a maze like I saw on a website. Once I am done making it, I will take pictures and upload it.
If his results are as good as they seem, my question is why are they not attached to every single house that needs heat and has sunlight beaming down at it.!!!!

Welcome Preston to Pilot Valley

I would like to thank Preston for the information he has provided me about the area around Montello. Its great to know, that I wont be the only one there. Rev Michael, Geoff, Preston and I will all make it it if we stick together and learn from each others mistakes!!

New Wind and Weather Reports

Rev Mike, found some info about the wind. 3mph to 17mph. still unknown is if its constant.
Temps look better then the ranges I found previously. Guess we will have to keep a log through out the years for our own records.

Saturday, May 30, 2009

Thanks for following Preston

Preston do you already live in Montello? if so email me your email address so we can chat!!

Trevor Cohen Memorial

A nice man named Trevor Cohen found out about Monkey Bone Ranch, and has decided to help us with our water fund. He will start with donating money to buy a water tank to hold our fresh water. His next donation will fund our water well project. We plan to share the well with other people who will try to live off the land and be as eco friendly as possible. Unfortunately our generous donation is due to Mr Cohen having terminal lung cancer. Due to the fact he is donating to us, we will be building a memorial in honor of him at Monkey Bone Ranch, so that his name and memory will forever live on when he is gone. Hopefully he can come see the place before he is taken away from us.

Water treatment container

Found another water container to use like a rain barrel. Its been sitting next to my house for almost a year now. Forgot I had it. It was given for free last year by a place I worked at. Its a Huge Beer Ice Tub. Has a built in garden hose connector, so it will be filled with waste water then used to water the garden or for water for the animals after its been treated. Need to find a 4th wheel, thats why I got it for free.

Free heating method

My friend michael and michael from nevada reminded me of something I saw
a while ago. You use a box to capture the suns heat, use a fan to blow
the hot air into your house, and it sucks the cold air back into the box
to heat it. Totally free way to heat the house. I remember seeing one
that heated water along the same theory. When I am in florida, I will
build one for water, one for heat. Will need to find a method for
cooling since there is a lot of hotness in florida...

Relocation for now

If I win the auction, I will be the proud owner of 1/3 acre of land in
sunny florida. Its off in the woods. I plan to set it up as I would in
nevada to see what will or will not work. Its about 90 minutes away.
Close enough to come back home if I fail out there..

Rain Barrels

Just watched on planet green how to make rain barrels. I have 2 already for my trip, but I will not be using them for rain collecting unless it rains alot in Pilot Valley. They will be used to store shower water. Plan to shovel snow in winter to fill the barrels for free shower and plant watering. Will get some more and use it for shower waste water and then use the waste water to water plant life and if i can some how figure a way to clean the waste water, use it for shower water again. Supposedly if you add some bleach to the snow or rain water, you can drink it. I do not think I will rely on that.

A new cabin plan?

Too bad not enough trees near montello to build it...

Did some math

Found an ebay auction who had an idea of the size of properties. 20
acres is a 1 mile walk around all 4 sides. 21 football fields. If you
walk around a high school track 4 times, that's the length of the
perimeter of my property. That's not as big as I had originally thought.
But when my tire blew out on expressway and I had to walk that mile to a
auto part store to get a tire iron, a mile is still a mile and its a
long ways. Over 20 minutes away...

Fencing options

Did some fencing estimates, over $2600 if I dit it myself with fence
posts, and 3 strings of barbwire. 20 acres is a lot to fence in. The
barb wire wasn't bad, it was the fence posts that cost way way too
much...

Truck shopping still

Still have not made it out to shop for a truck, never have time with
hauling people back and forth to work and running a concession stand on
weekends. im thinking maybe a 4x4 jeep might work out there, but I would
have to see the towing capacity of it. Can't really save money while
living in tampa...

Awesome Cabin Design

This cabin looks very simple, would be great if they are cheap to make, to have a bunch of them around the property for when people come to visit or maybe have a little mini motel / hotel market.

Quikcrete building option

Found an interesting building design by the water today. Instead of
using sandbags to keep the river banks back they used bags of quikcrete.
Might work for building a house or wind barrier....

Temperatures

No one seems to have the same answers as to what the temperatures are
year round. I am starting to think, along with the strawbales around the
shed, I will dig mounds of dirt around the shed like mini mountains to
block the wind. This can be helpful in the collection of rain water too.

Sun dial clock

Well ok, its a solar powered watch. Has an lcd screen, its water proof
to 30m, it tells the date, time, has an alarm, tells day of the week
too. Was $10 from a watch shop. Less watch batteries for the
landfill.

Yet again

Have a job giving worthless checks, why do business people think its ok
to rip off employees? We work, we earn our pay, why do people think its
ok not to pay us?

Thursday, April 16, 2009

Decided to

Go with medical portable toilet rather then a camp toilet. Also decided
to go with building a out door shower frame then the cheesey shower
tents. This will be interesting during the winter months. Pvc pipes will
be used along with shower curtains and kiddie pool to collect the waste
water.

Water treatments

1.9mg chlorine to 4 cups of water.
The ? is chlorine bleach or pool chlorine or some other sort of
chlorine.

Got my job back

Supposedly I have my job back. We will see how long it lasts.

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Big set back

Budget for moving has been cut severely now. Loss my job today. Instead
of a boat load of cash, won't have much to buy a truck if I am lucky.

Monday, April 6, 2009

Trailer

Was thinking you could rent a uhaul trailer, but apparently they try to charge almost the same as a truck. Its cheaper to buy a trailer from northern tool. Granted the trailer from northern tool isn't enclosed, but for a hundred more you can enclose it yourself.

Another car payment

Made another car payment, 17 more to go and I own my useless hatchback. Wish it was a full size truck, something that would be useful in Nevada.

Going to get a 10 x 12 shed from lowes. Its $424 and if its small enough

house it in until the move in june

Thanks Geof

Thanks to montello alpaca for dumping gravel up and down pilot valley
road. He is helping the entire area making the road drivable for one and
all.

Thanks half.com

Nothing found today, off to work I go now.

Shed update

Found a new source for a shed. Home depot has a shed, not as nice but
shipping is a lot less. Its $799. The problem is having a shipping
address.

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

IRS took refund

The nice government took my $869 refund today. They claim I owed back
taxes from 2002. So looks like either a truck or shed can not be bought
for the move, mostly likely the shed.

Trees to Block Wind

I did research the other day for some trees to maybe provide shade, but I didnt mention them on the blog for some reason. One of the features was it acts as a wind block as well. These trees were dirt cheap, less then $5 each including shipping. They also grow 5 feet a year, and they are great for our grow zone of 4. This may help in reducing wind, or at least show us which way the wind is blowing. Here is a link to the tree Lombardy Poplar Hedge

More information

It will be about 7 miles to our friend Mikes place.
Faster and easier to get to Wendover then montello, even tho montello is closer, the roads make it less travelable.

Grocery store has my 5 gallons of
water, and propane refills. There is a power pole 1 mile to my property, if that's the case, one day may get electricity but don't know if its
even worth the $7 a foot.

Local animals include, free range cows, possibly free milk? Cow patties, which are flamable, there are mountain lion prints, numerous lizards, birds of prey. and wild horses.

Straw Bale House

Watched a show yesterday on planet green channel. It was hosted by Steve
from This Old House. He helped a family build a room addition out of
straw bales. Looked very easy, to do. Hardest part will be the stucco
walls. They used chicken wire, which when done, I will use to build a
chicken coup.

Another update

Might have to scrap tent idea, according to my sources it is very windy
in pilot valley. Tent might not be feasible, will have to check it out.
Def will try it with tent stakes and must hurry with building something
to block the wind.

Important update

Looks like I will have to trade in my honda civic. Will not be usable in
nevada. Will need at least an F150. Will need to bring a lot of spare
tires or have AAA. Doubt they will come out to middle of nowhere.
Apparently the county built a road thru the valley and left their
construction debris in front of my road. June is looking a lot more
feasible due to lack of money.

Generator fixed?

Well the generator I bought for $100 because the guy couldn't get it
started, started on the first pull after I moved the fuel cutoff valve,
don't know if they had anything to do with it, because while it was
running I moved the valve and it kept running. So electricity issue is
now fixed, will have a combo of generator, solar for our consumption
needs

Strike out sports authority

Was gonna get some items off my list today. Sports authority didn't have
anything in the store they had on the website. So I couldn't use my $25
off coupon. The website wouldn't let me use the coupon either otherwise
would have skipped the store. They said try the other location. Can't do
that till friday.

Friday, March 13, 2009

Generator purchased

Picked up generator for $100. It was supposedly used once. If I get it
running again will give the guy another $100.

Picked up 2 gas cans

Picked up 2 huge gas cans for the generator about to go pick up. They
were 2 cans for $4. They are at least 10 gallon cans.

12v Fridge Update

The inside size is 11in by 17.5in. According to Coleman its a 40qt capacity.

No Truck Today

Back to truck shopping, a very important day is coming soon, I can hardly wait!!

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Found Truck

Found the truck I will be using in nevada if it turns out to be working and have auto. The ac may not work as the windows were rolled down while they were driving it around town.

Sad Day in Monkeyville

Found out some sad news today. I may put off the move to July instead of May. We will have to see....

Solar Shower Water Recycling

Found a site that says you can treat water by putting it into clear soda bottles and leaving in the sun light for a day. I plan to reuse bath water during this. They claim it would be safe to drink the water, but I do not plan on drinking it. I think it will be safe enough to clean again with.

Another supply find

Found a 12v fridge today. Was $30, was 90 minutes each way to get it. It is made by coleman.
New motor design provides quiet, long lasting performance
40 quart capacity
Cools to 40°F below surrounding temperature
Holds 44 cans plus snacks
Can be positioned upright or as a chest
Tray shelf included to keep items organized
Plugs into cigarette lighter with included 12v adapter
Limited 1 year warranty
Door can be converted to open from the left or right
Perfect for the office, dorm rooms, RVs, campers, truck cabs, cars, SUVs

Ahh the Tent

This is the tent we will be using for a few days or weeks

Sunday, March 8, 2009

Solar shower test run

Tested solar shower run time. The 2.5 gallon one I got from flea market lasted 4 minutes on nonstop spray. I would wet myself down then soap up and rinse.

Tent setup

Tomorrow at local park will be the day to see if the tent is good and has all the parts there for it. Will take videos or pictures during the test phase.

Generator answers

12v generator will run for 5 +- hours per gallon and holds 1.5 gallons of gas. So for 40 cents an hour I can have power.

Gallons per day

Did an estimation of water needs for human, we will need 14 gallons of water intake. That's $15 a week. Then for showering it will be 12 gallons for my solar shower a week. Which will be $15 a week.

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Generator for power?

Trying to find solid information on gallons per hour for gas consumption. If its feasible, will go with that route. As long as gas continues at the current price or less.

Officially My Ranch is now...

Monkey Bone Ranch. I personally love it.

Mobile Blogging

I will be updating my blog thru my sidekick cell phone. When I find stuff for my trip, the blog will be first updated. Will make the blog more interesting.

57 more days!!

Every day that passes, I get more excited to finally get to Montello. Waiting for my new friend Mike to go to Montello and do some research for his ranch and hopefully some for mine. Mike will be moving sometime next year. Here is a link to his blog!

Super Flea Market Finds Today!!!

Found a tent I was looking for today. He said its a 3 room tent, 12 by 14 Retails over $150 got it today for $20 at flea market. Going to set it up later today to see if its all there, and to make sure there are no holes. Worse case scenario, it becomes a chicken coop. Best case, its a shelter while I assemble the walmart shed. Also picked up a backup camp stove for $5. Uses the liquid fuel from walmart. I knew if I shopped at flea market, I would be able to find everything needed for this move. I have saved alot of money by shopping used. Most of the items look or are brand new.

Eagle Attack in Wells, NV

Eagle survives crash through truck windshield

RENO, Nev. – The eagle has landed — with a thud — after crashing through the windshield of a tractor-trailer on a Nevada highway. State wildlife officials said Wednesday that a 15-pound golden eagle with a 7-foot wing span has a swollen head but otherwise appears unhurt after crashing into a Florida truck driver's big rig on Monday. Matthew Roberto Gonzalez of Opa Locka, Fla., was driving on U.S. Interstate 80 in northeast Nevada near Wells, about 60 miles west of the Utah line, when the eagle came crashing into the cab of his truck."I heard a loud thump like a brick or something coming through the glass," said Daryl Young of Miami, the co-driver who was dozing in the sleeper berth when it happened. "I woke up, and the windshield was all over me. Next thing I know there was a big bird lying on the floor."Joe Doucette, a spokesman for the Nevada Department of Wildlife, said it appears the eagle hit the windshield head first."One side of the head is swollen, but there does not appear to be any permanent damage," he said."The guys in the truck immediately bailed out because it was one ticked off bird. She was pretty feisty," Doucette said. "Even the officer who responded didn't want to go in there so we had one of our wildlife biologists do it."The eagle was recovering at the Northeast Nevada Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Spring Creek, and Doucette said the goal was to release it back into the wild.

Decided on House Plan

We are gonna go with the sams club garden shed. Comes with floor, 4 windows, skylights, and the vent stack there. Looks like an actual home, and is the best value for the space.

Ez up Tent Already owned

Found out the other day, my ez up tent is not in fact 10 x 10, its only 8 by 8. Put a huge dent in my plans to build a shelter. Really wanted 100sq feet, not 64 sq feet. I do have 2 of them, so that would give me 128 sq feet if I combine them, but that would make joining the roofs a bit tricky for me. The extra 28 sq feet would make it bigger to live in. Might make the bathroom inside along with solar shower area as well.

To Tent or to Shed

To get a tent or to get a shed, or to build something very simple from wood, these are the questions that make me sleep less at night. I suppose since I am the only one moving these questions would not worry me as much.

Flea Market Find

I found my solar shower I will need at the Monkey Bone Ranch.
$2 at the flea market, where I am selling everything I own, to finance my move!!
It is brand new, but only 2.5 gallons, about half of the size of the ones I saw at walmart, but they claim 5 gallon ones for about 4 people. I am a mere 1 person.

Ready to move Now

I am so sick of city life, 2 hours each way to commute, people who can not drive worth a hoot.

Montello, gravel roads, and wildlife, here I come.

Question: Are the scorpions in Nevada poisonous?

Answer: Although they all have venom the only one that is considered a problem is the bark scorpion, Centruroides exilicauda, which only occurs in limitedly in Clark County. See publications section.

Make sure what you want to build, that you actually can build it.

Water Well Drilling

Rough estimates are about $65 per foot, anywhere from 35 feet up to 300 feet.
There is also a fee to bring the drilling equipment out there. It ranges from $2500 to $7000

A lucky new resident managed to do it for about $13000.
