Got a spare rim and brand new tire for $40 today. So its a full size
tire for my 1995 f150 extended cab with long bed. Now just need a jack
and a tire iron. Lol

I have passed on the $150 wood stove, since it was 120 miles round trip to even look at it. I found one on northern tool for $180 brand new, and will more then heat my cabin or shed fully. Plus free shipping directly to montello, cant beat that!!!

$5 land in nevada desert

Found this great website where you can sell anything for $5. I decided I would sell 1sq ft sections of my land for $5 each to raise funds. Since I own 20 acres, thats 871200 people I can sell it to would be about 4 million dollars lmao

Wood burning stove

Just found a wood burning stove for $150 locally. Going to check it out
and see if its worth it. They claim it works but a door hinge needs
welding. This would keep cabin or shed whatever very warm when its cold.
$150 I would think is less then what its weight in scrap metal is.

President Harrison

Was a great man. Why was he a great man you may ask? He kept a pet goat
at the white house. That's a man that knows a great animal. Due to this
fact one of my goats will be named President Harrison...

New fence idea

Does anyone think cutting used tires in half and planting them in ground
with half arch opening. Second row resting between tires on the ground
level. Any one think would make a cheap usable fence? Any idea where to
get 20 acres of tires from?

New Tires Maybe

I am debating new tires for the truck, but I can't justify $450 for my
truck I only paid $1000 for lol. Maybe I can find some newer tires, but
then again I won't have to worry about tires if I get new tires. Maybe
geoff has some tires from his pile for his house?

Been thinking all day

Ever since reading Rev Mike's blog update, that I'm gonna arrive in
montello travelling light. If my previous calculations are correct I
should be able to construct my cabin for about the same price as a cargo
container. The shed will be my home while I build the cabin. Will start
with my original building plans. Tent, shed, extra concession tents
walled in with wood or metal sheets. Then cabin construction.

The 3 R's

Recycle Reuse Repurpose.

I often see items that could be used for my homestead, yet most the time
I pass on it due to the cost feasibility of transporting it to nevada.
Does any one know if the construction barrels can be used for non
potable water storage? What about for solar power the bus stop solar
panels that provide lights at night? Or the construction signs with the
light bulbs? Do those use solar or a battery? They run for days or
months never seen anyone do work on them. What about the orange flashing
lights on construction barrels? How do they keep flashing? We have many
auctions in florida and I could get these items for next to nothing. But
again cost feasibility in transporting them to nevada.

Captains log march 6th 2010

Had a few days to think about some ideas in phases.

Phase 1. Find my land and the corner markers of my 20 acres.
Phase 2. I will be in a tent until I erect my shed. With help from Mike,
should not be in tent more then 1 or 2 days.
Phase 3. Fix entrance road to my land, after the shed is erected then I
will look for a trailer or a storage container.
Phase 4. Then I will erect a chicken and duck coops for fresh eggs and
birds to eat.
Phase 5. Erect small structures out of recycled products to see the
durability of each.
Phase 6. I start digging my ponds before winter comes so when the snow
melts my ponds will be filled hopefully.
Phase 7. Fence work will begin so I can start getting goats.
Phase 8. Plant trees I saw in magazine that claims they will grow 5 feet
per year in nevada. Surround my home with them to prove shad for
structure with in 2 years.

Storage container inputs

Thanks for all the help in the debate. I am on a shoe string budget and
all the help is great. I was prepared to live in a tent until I built
something better. Then I got the shed to erect as a better structure.
Then the storage container seemed like a great idea until the delivery
fee was involved. I can get pop up campers and pull behind campers
rather cheap that aren't in the best shape. But the unknown factor is
will they even survive the 2500 mile trek to nevada. Still don't even
know if the f150 truck would make it there. I think the truck would, but
now the tires are suspect. Its like fighting an uphill battle with every
new idea. Just need to get there and figure it all out later. Just paid
another $70 in storage fees for my nevada supplies again.

Serious Debate now

Seriously debating which is better in the long run, a purchased container and the $500 delivery fee, or the rental of $500 plus $70 a month. $2500 upfront to purchase and then pay for delivery on top of that just doesn't seem to make financial sense to me. I think with $2500 up front I would be able to buy a very good rv or mobile home or a trailer of some sorts. The $70 a month rental would elminate my need to store stuff in storage each month but it would cost $500 to drive there to drop off the stuff. Catch 22 every idea I come up with.
