Toilet Flushing

Saw a great way to have indoor plumbing. Inspired by the christmas story they show for 24 hours on xmas eve and xmas day.
Use the old school water closets. Toilet bowl, pull cord and water rushes from above the toilet and flushes the toilet. Just need to hook a pipe up under the building structure and have it run downwards since it will be gravity fed...

  1. You may also want to look into the gravity fed plumbing system (http://www.plumbfit.com/identifying_your_plumbing_system/) or Google gravity plumbing system for your shower and toilet. It was the norm in the old days. Keep in mind this means keeping a tank at a certain height. I'm not sure but I think you get 1 bar of pressure per meter of head. Since this means having an elevated tank it also means planning for it's related problems. Things such as getting the water at that height in the first place, freezing weather, plumbing fixtures made for low pressure vs. high pressures (some just won't work at lower pressures). Personally I'm thinking of going with a composting toilet such as the Envirolet or simply the Lovable Loo from Humanure author Joseph Jenkins. For showers I'm considering either a small manual pressure pump (pedal once a day for exercise :) ) with 10-20 gallon capacity minimum pressure tank or simply a 3-5 gallon sprayer.
Either case I haven't decided on Montello yet, as you know Florida gets well over 60 inches of rain a year so water is not an issue. So going from 60 inches to less than 11 is rather frightful.
