animal auction..

just bought 2 female goats a baby goat 3 big pigs 2 bunnies with cage and feed bowl guess how much? nope guess lower..only a mere $108
now on farm I have 9 goats, 5 pigs, 13 chickens, 12 quail, 16 rabbits, 2 guineas.

goat pen

finished my goat pen out of shipping pallets and put all my male goats together. kip and Napoleon have been having gay sex forever and tried it on my 3 new goats and I think someone didn't enjoy it because kip is now missing his 5th leg. he's been bleeding From the area since about 3pm. it appears to have stopped. he isn't making noise he's eating he's drinking moving around and peeing. so he should be fine, other wise it's BBQ goat time :) it'll teach him to stick it where it doesn't belong lmao

Cast net and waders

I just was wading in my pond with my waders i got from the auction and used a cast net that i git from the auction for first time. On my 4th throw I caught a bass.. Also found out waders have a hole by the right knee..

Little Anns first successful hunt

My blue tick hound little ann tracked a possum to a tire near a hole jack dog dug under the cabin that i refer to as his basement. It took little ann shaking and biting and 3 bb shots to brain before the possum died. jack dog dragged it in his basement. I promptly took it back and put it in the cooler for my neighbor to eat tomorrow..good job little Ann..

I moved mother rabbit and her 8 babies to the trailer and new cage. Found 1 dead and went to close lid I accidentally stepped on 1 bunny, it yelled out but was still moving put him back in

My new dog died old Dan. Was fine yesterday, was sluggish this morning thought maybe sleepy came home he was dead :(

New Truck Today

Going to town to pick up my new 2000 FORD F150 Truck. Suppose to get better gas mileage then my 95 did. Holds about the same in gas tank. It's a reg cab, but since it's just me. Don't need extra room. It's hunter green.

Finally a female goat

I finally got a Pygmy female goat. Now I have 3 goats. I have the lady away from the men. Male goats broke out the pen to be with female. I opened her gate they were scared to enter. Ordered my goat milking kit. Soon fresh goat milk each day. Stop by for a glass..

accidental farming

I have 2 corn fields where I had my animal compost piles. also got wheat and wild strawberry and wild carrots too.

the days of the ranch life are slipping away. more and more obstacles are taking their tolls on me. almost 2 years ago I bought my land to move there shortly afterwards. why am I not there enjoying my secluded life?

i used a live Earthworm. I set cane pole down, bass took hook and worm and swam off with my freaking pole. swam all over the pond.

the king of cane pole fishing

I only use a cane pole and I have caught freshwater fish, saltwater fish, crabs, turtles, frogs. just caught 20 fish in less then 30 minutes. bass, blue gill, catfish, various sizes. hope angel lake near Montello treats me well, if not that pond I'm digging one day maybe filled with fish to the top.

trash burning

anyone have ideas on trash removal if there is no trash service in area? any ideas how to start a fire and keep it going till all trash burns away?

road vanished

the road getting off my cabin property has washed away with all the rain. it gas a canyon 3 feet deep 18 feet long. more rain coming hasn't really stopped for 6 days already

surprise in the animal trailer

i went to give water to my rabbits and my gray rabbit had plucked a fur pile again. she still had her first set of babies with her. i noticed the fur pile was breathing up and down. i slightly moved the pile apart and my gray rabbit gave birth again. put her other babies in their new home cage. the black rabbit is the daddy. my brown and white rabbit should be having birth soon with in 2 weeks if my calculations are right..

new duck enclosure

almost done with the duck enclosure I made today. used 4 dead trees and planted them 2 feet into the ground. wrapped it in chicken wire and added a gate. need to figure out the ground area as the chicken wire has left a gap in some places. going to make a pond in the middle for them. after completed I will put 2 ducks in it to see which ones are females. and after 5 days I will know which ducks are staying which ones are off to Chinese restaurant.

interesting laundry bag

I forgot my laundry bag so I knotted the overalls leg bottoms. the straps made a great handle. I can so see females using this as a new purse fashion if they aren't already...

poor little quail

my poor injured little quail expired in the night early morning. his injuries were too much. quail tastes like dark meat turkey. easy to defeather too. my original chicken hen was floating in the duck water container last night too.

i am gonna rename my farm to death valley. just lost a chicken hen in the duck water box. don't see any signs of trauma. will do autopsy Sunday I guess. went to check on the injured quail. the quail is surrounded by the others to protect and keep it warm.

missing quail

I woke up to a missing quail. came home from the city i unleashed jack dog turned around saw a brown ball in his mouth. guess what it was a quail. his body was badly tattered but he was still alive. his wounds looked superficial. I don't think jack did all the damage it was too short a time frame. he is missing feathers galore. I didn't see any puncture wounds. may have been Jill cat who did the damage and jack rescued the quail? put back the quail in the cage. hope he lives.

tragedy on the farm

tragedy on farm. i apparently have another 2 female rabbits who gave birth unbeknown to me. I put the rabbits outside I didn't see the newborns until today when I went to clean out their cage inside. I dug another 8 graves. I'm the worse farmer ever, that's 13 baby rabbits and 1 baby chicken I've lost.

that was way more traumatic for me then I need. some were calm some angry some clawing me. in tge end they are now cool and running with the ducks. 1 mini bantam rooster was a trouble maker attacking hens on their necks and he tried to fight a big old rooster. I had to put him back in his cage. 1 hen laid an egg after wing feathers were clipped. ducks chickens eating from same feeder but separate water dishes.

got back from small animal auction. got 13 egg laying hens and 2 roosters and 2 cages. not bad for $78

repaired the shed and duck escape

from the wind damage. it bent a piece of siding over the roof. I reattached it. never thought wind would damage through the tree line on that side. could have been worse. I'm getting good at hammering nails too.
while feeding my chickens my ducks figured out after 4 months to hop a little to get out the coop door. they returned through a hole I didn't know about after a 15 minute yard chase. during this time they assisted in a rooster escaping and catching him was a 30 minute adventure. I have now fixed the hole they discovered, attached feeders to fence so I font have to enter the coop to feed. will be closing door behind me after I collect the eggs. I'm up to 4 eggs a day now.

god gives and takes away. we are all gods creatures. sadly the baby chick I took a picture of has passed away. her 4 other sisters are still alive. I buried her next to the bunny rabbits.

tried to give me only $300 for my f150 truck. I think not you low life scumbags. sold it on craigslist while in the show room for $1000 cash. 11 hours later have a reliable 1997 dodge caliber.

trading truck in today

goodbye my ford f150 that needs brakes, fuel pump for front tank, fish oil cleaned off from water tank, tires, steering arms, alternator eats gas at 10mpg which is over $8 each way to town which would bankrupt me in Montello at $30 each way.. hello dodge caliber. never owned a dodge before but at 25 mpg I can live with it.

3 duck eggs in 3 days. talk about sunny side up eggs. taste like chicken eggs. quails having been laying eggs too. they taste like chicken too. getting more quail and chickens soon to get more eggs to sell. thinking about pheasants too.

my big gray rabbit has built a hut out of hay, ripped it's fur out and put it in the hut. this time due to the high temps outside they should all live. will not be disturbing her for a week, just giving her more food and water then usual..

truck issues

i need to need to update my truck situation. my f150 rear wheel drive unless it's all flat roads. she can't handle inclines and ice or snow. new tires might help but I dont think worth the investment. brake issues are worsening as well. I really hope this doesn't delay my move to Montello.

quail not the vice president

I got 6 quail hen today and 1 rooster quail. they have been laying for the previous 2 weeks. I got a restaurant that says they will buy the eggs from me. should be 24 eggs minimum per week.

RIP BUNNIES

Is there a heaven for bunnies? RIP Thumper,Anna,Pinky,Jack & Floppy. Poor souls came into world on 2/6/2011 & left quickly. Bless your hearts.

animals update

all the animals survived the blizzard that came through so did all the animals. my chickens are laying eggs now. waiting for the ducks to start. hopefully by spring they do.
real test will be the temps tonight. suppose to be coldest in a decade.

going to have to trade my 2 wheel drive f150 in for something 4x4 can't handle the snow and mud to well.

Montello or Bust

This blog will be all about my adventure of moving to Pilot Valley, just south of Montello, Nevada. I am going to post all of my Research I have done in a short time, so that others that want to move to the area, will have the ground work to make a good choice and know up front that there are and will be challenges. flightless ducks

they may not fly but they flap enough to go straight up at least 7 feet. almost made it above the 8 foot chicken coop I made. going to have to make a roof some how. got a job at a local computer repair shop doing video game repairs one day a week. getting use to cold weather although Montello looks to be colder some days.
